I’ve been taking graduate courses at the Avila Institute in Spiritual Theology (which I’ve really been enjoying and have been learning a lot from! With the excellent instructors, live online lectures, and feedback on forums and assignments, I feel like I’ve gotten a great amount of spiritual direction and a growing knowledge of our Catholic Faith so win win win win. Highly recommend looking into Avila!) and through my most recent class, I became acquainted with Fr. Ignatius Schweitzer, the course instructor.
Fr. Ignatius’s story is quite interesting, having spent six years tucked away in a Carthusian monastery and then feeling called back out into the world to instruct others in the faith.
It was obvious throughout the course how well acquainted he is with the mystic saints, and happily, he agreed to come on The Catholic Mama podcast to discuss how the spiritual teachings of Catholic mystic, St. John of the Cross, can be applied to everyday family life.
The conversation was soul-lifting and so illuminative. I think you’ll really get a lot out of it! You can download the episode directly below or listen to it on iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, Spotify, or anywhere you normally access podcasts. The Catholic Mama is there!
And be sure to connect with Fr. Ignatius on his website UpperGarden.org.
Fr. Ignatius also shared some resources he recommends for diving into St. John of the Cross:
The Prayer of Love and Silence by a Carthusian monk
I Want to See God and I Am a Daughter of the Church by Pere Marie-Eugene de l’Enfant-Jesus
